Luz Marina Arias is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University. Prior to coming to UC San Diego, she was a Hewlett Fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) at Stanford University. Her current research is on the impact of institutions that organize and coordinate economic and political behavior on economic and political development. Her work focuses on the consequences of pre-colonial establishments on institutional development in the Americas and their effect on current economic performance.
