Biography

Carlos Vilalta is professor of research methods and coordinator of the Information Bank for Applied Research in Social Sciences (BIIACS) at the Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas (CIDE) in Mexico City. Earlier this year, Vilalta presented results of a test of two macro-theories in criminology, outlining several important findings. The results were based on a Mexico City case study and appear on CIDE’s Geocrimen website.

Vilalta has held visiting positions at the University of Cambridge, University of Missouri-St. Louis, McGill University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Houston and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his Ph.D. in urban studies from Portland State University in 2002 and his master’s degree in urban studies from El Colegio de México in 1998.
