    Welcome/Bienvenido

    For a quarter of a century, the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at UCSD has undertaken innovative social science research on Mexico and U.S.-Mexican relations and trained a generation of Latin American academics and other professionals in U.S. Studies. We will be hosting a series of anniversary events over the course of the year and we invite you to check in with us periodically to discover all that is happening at the Center as we begin our next 25 years.

    25th Anniversary Celebration, May 25, 2005
    The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies will host a reception and dinner on May 25th from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla to celebrate the Center's accomplishments over the past 25 years. The dinner will honor Dr. Wayne A. Cornelius, the Founding Director of the Center. Our special guest will be Dr. Luis Carlos Ugalde, president of Mexico's Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) and a graduate of our Summer Seminar in U.S. Studies (class of 1989).
    Post-Election Conference in Mexico City
    The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies is proud to present the conference "The Elections in the United States: Implications for Mexico" on Thursday, November 11, 2004 in the Hotel Gran Meliá Reforma in Mexico City.
    Distinguished Speakers' Series and the Center Circle
    The Center Circle is a new opportunity for donors, who value the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, to help support the Distinguished Speaker Series.

    Community Advisory Board
    The Community Advisory Board is comprised of distinguished members of the San Diego and Tijuana business and professional communities.
    Mexico Advisory Board
    The Mexico Advisory Board was created by the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies in order to elevate the presence and visibility of the Center in Mexico.
    Other Events
    Research Seminars on Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico Relations
    We will continue to hold our excellent series of research seiminars, which feature our Visiting Fellows, Guest Scholars, and participants in our Distinguished Speakers' Series.
    The Roundtable on Political Changes will take place May 18 at the Center; Wayne Cornelius, Juan Molinar Horcasitas and Federico Estévez will participate.
    Mexico's Secretary of the Treasury, Francisco Gil Díaz, keynote speaker at an Economics Roundtable. The date is forthcoming.
    (Details on both roundtables will be forthcoming.)
    The Border Water Project, a joint initiative with El Colegio de San Luis, held a research conference in late January 2005.
    Cultural Activities
    In addition to our academic events, the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies will sponsor several cultural activities throughout the year, including our ongoing International Contemporary Artists' Series and a concert by the Orchestra of Baja California which is tentatively set for May 5th.
