UCSD Partnership with Mexico

In her inaugural address, Chancellor Fox set out a vision for UCSD, challenging the campus community to focus on three "I"s - Innovation, Interdisciplinary, and International. She proposed to lead her international agenda with a set of bold initiatives that will strengthen the university's commitment to Mexico and address issues affecting quality of life in our countries. Mexico is a our valued neighbor and a long-term partner of the campus in a broad range of endeavors from health to education to business development and the environment.

The Center plays a key role in the implementation of Chancellor Fox's commitment to strengthen ties with Mexico. An ambitious agenda of four key initiatives is proposed; bi-national regional and cross border partnerships that will accomplish the following:

  • Enhance the quality of life in both Mexico and the U.S. by improving air quality.
  • Improve economic prospects for all members of Mexican society through improved economic policies.
  • Support cross-border technology innovation and production through research and education activities.
  • Establish an office in Mexico City at the Casa de la Universidad de California with a UCSD representative in-house on a full-time basis.

Casa de la Universidad de California

The Casa de California was established as a site to develop novel education and research programs in close collaboration with UC's academic partners in Mexico.

The Center has been the most active entity in the UC system, hosting events at the Mexico facility with the support of its Mexico Advisory Board and the UCSD representative in Mexico.
