Chantal Lucero Vargas is a Ph.D. candidate in social sciences with a specialty in regional studies at El COLEF (El Colegio de la Frontera Norte) in Tijuana. Chantal’s research focuses on the respect and protection of human rights of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents who are under the jurisdiction of the Mexican State. It analyzes if Mexican immigration policy focuses on respecting human rights or whether it is focused on national security. She is a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Community of Migration Studies (CIEM).

Chantal holds two master’s degrees. She earned a master’s in constitutional law from Universidad de Sevilla and a master’s in human rights and democracy from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences.
